Step 2: Derivation of the equation of motion by the graphical method:

From the graph above, we can say that

Distancetravelled(s)=AreaoffigureOABC=AreaofrectangleOADC+AreaoftriangleABD

ThereforeS=(OA×OC)+12(AD×BD)

Since,BD=EA, the above equation becomes

S=(OA×OC)+12(AD×EA)orS=ut+12t(EO-AO)(EA=EO-AO)orS=ut+12t(v-u)orS=ut+12t(at)(v=u+atorv-u=at)orS=ut+12at2

Hence the second equation of motion S=ut+12at2 has been derived graphically.
