The main causes for the loss of biodiversity are:
(i) Extensive Deforestation: As a result of urbanization, forests are getting destroyed, to meet the increasing demands for wood for various purposes.
(ii) Pollution: Contamination of air, water and soil is one of the major contributor for the loss of biodiversity as it is causing damage to the living things.
(iii) Climatic changes: Climatic changes that occurs naturally or due to the activities of human beings have adversely affected the biodiversity causing extinction of some species.
(iv) Loss of animals: Killing animals for their skin, meat and other body parts is one of the main cause for the loss of biodiversity.
(v) Natural Disasters: Occurrence of natural disasters like cyclones, droughts, floods are also a major cause, as it causes great damages to the species living in an area.
