Question

Diagram shows a mixed source R of alpha and beta particles in a thick lead walled container. The particles pass through a magnetic field in a direction perpendicular to the plane of paper inwards as shown by x.
Show in the diagram how the particles get affected.

Solution

For alpha particles the direction of deflection which can be determined by Fleming’s left hand rule demonstrates that they must be positively charged. Beta particles will be opposite of alpha particles that is right side.
Gamma rays are unaffected by a magnetic field.
