People in a democracy have a right to free speech or freedom of expression to present their opinions and discussion on various issues. These rights are also known as civil liberties. It is the basic right of citizens that is protected by the constitution of a country.
Citizens can use these rights to oppose, criticise, suggest and comment on laws and policies made by the government.
Democracy also allows the people to form political parties, trade unions, non government organisations and committees to spread their ideas and aspirations.
