Biomass is the renewable organic matter that comes from plants and animals.
Biomass is the most important fuel that is used for cooking and heating purposes.
Biomass sources for energy include- waste from firewood, wood chips, and various agricultural crops (corn, soybeans, sugarcane) that produce biofuels, animal manure, and human sewage.
Greenhouses gas:
A greenhouse gas is a gas that absorbs and emits radiant energy, causing the greenhouse effect within the infrared thermal range.
The main gases are carbon dioxide, methane, and water vapor.
Like fossil fuels, biomass produces greenhouse gases, but in a lesser amount.
In recent studies, it has been observed burning of biomass in power plants leads to the emission of various pollutants like nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, lead, mercury, carbon monoxide, and similar harmful air pollutants.
This has been associated with diseases like tuberculosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, etc.
