Solution

Velocity-time graph

It is a graphical representation of the relation between the change in velocity and the change in time.

Explanation

  1. When a rock is thrown upward with some velocity.
  2. The velocity of rock keeps on decreasing with increasing height due to the gravity of the earth.
  3. During the motion in the upward direction, the velocity of the rock is in the opposite direction to the direction of acceleration due to gravity.
  4. Due to this opposing gravitational force, the rock will stop moving upwards and starts to fall downwards.
  5. The point at which the rock stops moving upward is the maximum height.
  6. At this point, the velocity of the rock is zero and the time period of the journey is half of the total journey time.
  7. After reaching the maximum height, the rock starts to fall downwards.
  8. During the fall, the velocity of the rock is in the same direction of acceleration due to gravity.
  9. Due to this, the rock's velocity will increase with a decrease in height until it falls to the ground with the same initial velocity.
