Structure of female gametophyte:

A typical embryo sac of a flowering plant at maturity is composed of seven cells and eight nuclei.
● Egg apparatus- one egg cell and two synergids.
Synergids - release of male gametes occurs at one of the
synergids.
● Three antipodal cells are found in the chalazal end that degrade after fertilization.
● Two central polar nuclei remain free until fertilisation by male gametes. Once fertilised with a male gamete, they form a triploid primary endosperm nucleus(PEN).
