Hemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN) — also called erythroblastosis fetalis — is a blood disorder that occurs when the blood types of a mother and baby are incompatible. Erythroblastosis foetalis is also known as haemolytic disease of the newborn as in this disease, breakdown of RBCs of the foetus takes place leading to anaemia. A baby's blood count can get dangerously low when this condition.
