Question

Evaluate:
\(\dfrac{-8}{9}+\dfrac{4}{9}+\dfrac{-2}{9}\)

Open in App
Solution

Step: Evaluating the given rational numbers

Given,

\(\dfrac{-8}{9}+\dfrac{4}{9}+\dfrac{-2}{9}\)

Since, the denominators of \(\dfrac{-8}{9},\dfrac{4}{9}\) and \(\dfrac{-2}{9}\) are same, therefore adding the numerators.

\(=\dfrac{-8+4+(-2)}{9}\)

\(=\dfrac{-4-2}{9}=\dfrac{-6}{9}\)

[Dividing numerator and denominator by the same number does not changes the value of the rational number]

\(=−\dfrac{2}{3}\)

Hence, the required answer is \(−\dfrac{2}{3}\)
