What are the strong bases?

Bases - Those substances when present in their aqueous form, releases OH-ions or Hydroxide ions are called bases.

  1. They are bitter in taste.
  2. Readily loses Hydroxide ions.

Alkali - Those bases which are soluble in water are called alkali.

For example, Potassium Hydroxide (KOH), Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH)

On the bases of release of ions they are classified into Weak Bases and Strong Bases.

Strong Bases - The ability of the compounds to remove a proton from a very weak acid or completely dissociate into its ions when present in water are known as Strong bases.

  1. They possesses pH range from 7 to 14.
  2. They shows blue to dark green colour on universal indicator.
  3. They release large amount of Hydroxide ions.
  4. They conduct electricity.
