Open in App
Solution

Formation of sodium ion from sodium atom:

  1. Sodium atom (Na) has atomic number 11. Thus, electronic configuration of sodium atom is (2,8,1).
  2. Sodium atom loses one electron from the outermost shell.
  3. On losing one electron, a positively charged sodium ion (Na+) is formed.

Thus, sodium atom (Na) loses one electron and forms sodium ion (Na+).
