Question

Find the volume strength of 1.6 N H2O2 solution

Open in App
Solution

Equivalent weight of H2O2 = 17
Consider the reaction:
2H2O2 2H2O + O2
Now 22.4L of O2 is obtained by 68g of H2O2 (2 moles of H2O2 = 68g) at N.T.P
Normality = mass of soluteequivalent mass of solute×volume in liters
1.6= mass of H2O217×1mass of H2O2 = 27.2g
1.6N of H2O2 contains 27.2g of H2O2
So O2 produced by 27.2g of H2O2 = 22.468×27.2 = 9.05L
Hence volume strength of 1.6N H2O2 is 9.05
