Question

From a sample of 196g of H2SO4 if all the oxygen and hydrogen atoms are removed and converted to H2O. Find the max. mole of H2O formed.

Molecular mass of H2SO4 = 1*2+32*1+16*4 = 98 g
No of moles of H2SO4 in 196 g = 196/98 = 2 moles
in one mole of H2SO4 and H2O there are equal no of H and H is the liminting factor(reagent) of how much moles of H2O is formed. Number of moles of O does not matter as long as it is half that of H. There are 2 moles of H2 in H2SO4 and so no more than 2 moles of H2O can be formed.
