Holocrine glands:

  1. Holocrine glands are a type of exocrine glands.
  2. They release secretions consisting of secretory products as well as disintegrating cells.
  3. Secretory products are generated inside the cell and discharged when the plasma membrane ruptures making up a holocrine gland's secretion.
  4. Therefore, holocrine glands destroy cells, and their products are secreted into the lumen.

Example:

  1. Sebaceous glands are examples of holocrine glands.
  2. It produces sebum through holocrine secretion.
  3. The sebum on the skin keeps it flexible and prevents it from drying out.
