Solution

  • IVF (In-vitro Fertilisation) is an artificial method of fertilisation used to help those couples having complication in fertility.
  • First the woman is given medication to induce ovulation of several eggs in a cycle.
  • These eggs are harvested and fertilised with the sperm taken from the father. Fertilisation takes place in the culture dish designed to replicate the conditions in a woman's uterus.
  • Once the embryo has sufficiently matured, usually after 3 or 5 days, it is inserted into the uterus of the donor mother for further development.
  • This process of embryo transfer into the mother's uterus is known as intrauterine transfer.
  • Babies born through this technique are called test tube babies.
