Excretion:

  1. The process of removing all the metabolic wastes generated in the body is referred to as excretion.
  2. In the case of vertebrate organisms, this process of excretion is mainly carried out by the skin, kidneys, and lungs.
  3. Through this process all the toxic substances present in the body including, drugs, and nitrogenous wastes such as ammonia, urea, and uric acid are excreted from the body.

Excretion in humans:

  1. Excretion through the kidneys: Kidneys excrete all the metabolic wastes from the body by filtering out the blood, the waste is generated in the form of urine.
  2. Excretion through the lungs: Lungs remove harmful gases like carbon dioxide from the blood.'
  3. Excretion through the skin: Skin also removes metabolic wastes in the form of sweat from the sweat glands that are present on the skin.

Egestion:

  1. Egestion is the process of removal of non-metabolic solid wastes from the body.
  2. These solid wastes are undigested food.
  3. The removal of these solid wastes is done through an opening present in the digestive system, called the anus.
