How is pollination carried out by insects, wind and water?

Pollination:

1. The transfer of pollen grains from the anther of a flower to the stigma of a flower is called pollination.
2. Pollination is of two types: Self Pollination and Cross Pollination.

Pollination by insects:

1. Insects get attracted to the colorful petals of the flower and nectar.
2. When insects sit on the flower to consume nectar the pollen grains get attached to their body.
3. When the same insect sits on another flower to consume nectar, the pollen attached to their body is transferred to the stigma of the second flower.
4. In this way insects transfer the pollen grains from one flower to other flowers.
5. Examples: Jasmin, banana, and banyan.

Pollination by wind:

1. Agent which facilitates the pollination is wind.
2. Dull flowers with no scent and nectar.
3. Small and light pollen grains are present.
4. Sticky and feathery stigma is present.
5. Examples: Wheat, rice, corn

Pollination by water:

1. Pollination in aquatic plants is done by water.
2. Lightweight pollen grains are produced in aquatic plants and are released in large numbers.
3. Pollen grains travel from one flower to another with water currents.
4. Feathery stigma is present.
5. Examples: Vallisneria and Hydrilla
