Question

How is the equation for CuSO4+H2Odetermined?

Open in App
Solution

Blue vitriol:

  • The reaction between H2O and CuSO4 gives CuSO4.5H2O which is called blue vitriol.
  • On dehydration of copper sulfate, the water molecule is lost resulting in the formation of copper sulfate monohydrate(CuSO4.H2O) which is bluish-white colour.
  • CuSO4(s)Coppersulphate+5H2O(l)Water→CuSO4.5H2O(s)Coppersulphatepentahydrate
  • It is used as battery electrolytes.
  • It is also used as a herbicide and a fungicide.
