Question

How long does it take for marigold/rice/wheat/coconut/mango plants to come to flower? In some plants, where flowering occurs more than once, what you call the winter-flowering period juvenile or mature?

Solution

  • It takes about 3 months for flowering in marigold, wheat and rice plants from the time of planting them as they are annual plants (it lives for one growing season i.e, within a year and dies).
  • Whereas mango and coconut are trees, therefore, they take around 3 to 6 years to flower.
  • Mature phase refers to the phase in plants when the sexual organs get developed (flower buds, flowers) and this phase passes after the first flowering of the plant.
  • Those plants which flower more than once have an inter-flowering period called the juvenile phase.
