Question

How the relative density of a solid determined by using Archimedes principle.

Solution

Relative density:

  1. The relative density of a substance is the ratio between the density of the substance and the density of the water at 40C.
  2. Mathematically it is given as, Relativedensity=DensityofthesubstanceDensityofwater.
  3. According to Archimedes' principle relative density is the ratio of the weight of a substance to the apparent loss of weight of substance when immersed in water.
  4. Hence, Relativedensity=Weightofbodyinair(Weightofbodyinair-Weightofbodyinwater).
