Solution

Displacement reaction:

  1. A chemical reaction in which a more reactive element displaces a less reactive element from its compound is known as displacement reaction.
  2. General representation of the reaction: A+BCAC+B
  3. This type of reaction is also known as a displacement reaction.
  4. When Iron nails are dipped into copper sulphate, iron nails will displace copper from copper sulphate and make their solution.
  5. The reaction can be written as:

Fe(s)IronGrey+CuSO4(aq)CoppersulphateBlueFeSO4(aq)FerroussulphateGreen+Cu(s)CopperBrown

6. Here, iron is more reactive than copper so it can easily displace copper.

7. Hence, this is a displacement reaction.
