Classify the following into friendly and harmful microorganisms- yeast, malarial parasite, Lactobacillus, bread mold, Rhizobium, Bacillus anthracis.

Microorganism:

  1. A microorganism is an organism of microscopic size, some of them exist in a single-celled form while some of them live as a colony of cells.
  2. They exist in nature in almost every habitat, they live around us and inside us.
  3. Some of the microorganisms are beneficial for us but, some of them are harmful and cause deadly diseases.

Friendly microorganism:

  1. Yeast are fungi that are commercially used for making alcoholic beverages and bread.
  2. Rhizobium is a nitrogen-fixing bacteria that are present in nodules of leguminous plants, it converts atmospheric nitrogen into nitrates and nitrites.
  3. Lactobacillus is a bacteria that converts milk to curd.
  4. Example- yeast, Lactobacillus, Rhizobium, etc.

Harmful microorganism:

  1. Malaria is spread by the bite of Anopheles mosquitoes carrying the malarial parasite in its saliva.
  2. Bacillus anthracis is a bacteria that acts as a pathogen of anthrax disease.
  3. Bread mould is a fungus that spoils the bread, which if consumed causes food poisoning.
