What is aneuploidy?

Aneuploidy:

1. Aneuploidy is a genetic condition that occurs when a cell has an abnormal number of chromosomes.

3. This condition is caused by three copies of chromosome 21, which is an autosomal chromosome.
4. Speech disability, short stature, mental retardation, and skin folds are the four symptoms associated with Down's syndrome.
5. Aneuploidies are agents that are capable of causing aneuploidy.
6. Aneuploidies are responsible for many harmful mutagenic carcinogens.
7. X-rays, for example, can cause aneuploidy by fragmenting chromosomes and disrupting the spindle apparatus.
8. Chemicals like colchicine (mitotic poison) can also cause aneuploidy by interfering with microtubule polymerization (chain formation).
