In the ABO blood groups, which group has no antibodies present in it and which group has both anitgens present on the RBC surface.
Human ABO blood group system is classified on the basis of antigens A and B present on the surface of the red blood cells. For instance, if blood cells have antigen A on their surface, they are called Group A, and this group will have antibodies against the B antigen in its serum fluid. Types of antigen and antibodies present in various groups of the ABO blood group system are as follows:
Blood group | Antigen | Antibody |
A | A | anti-B |
B | B | anti-A |
AB | A, B | -- |
O | -- | anti-A, anti-B |
The table makes it evident that the blood group AB has no antibodies in its serum, while the blood group O has no antigens on its RBC surface.
