Open in App
Solution

Insulin:

  1. Insulin is a hormone made by the pancreas that allows the body to use sugar from carbohydrates for energy.
  2. It is released into the bloodstream to lower the level of glucose in the blood.

Presence of C-peptide in insulin:

  1. Insulin is synthesized as a prohormone in mammals which needs to be processed before becoming a fully functional hormone.
  2. Pro-insulin has an extra stretch called the C-peptide.
  3. The C-peptide is removed when it matures into insulin.
