Is evolution just mutation?

Open in App
Solution

Mutations:

  1. Mutations in the living entities are referred to as the modification in genetic information of an organism.
  2. These alterations also occur spontaneously if there is an error while copying DNA or if the sequence of DNA comes in contact with a kind of mutagen.
  3. Mutations are also essential to evolution as every genetic characteristic in almost every entity was originally the outcome of mutation.
  4. These newly formed genetic variants are generally passed while reproduction and differential reproduction is a determining aspect of evolution.
  5. Hence these mutations which affect the survival of the next generations are agents of evolution.
