Given above is the completely labelled diagram of a mature embryo sac. The embryo sac contains 7 cells and shows two ends- micropylar end and chalazal end. 3 cells are present together at the micropylar end which is also the site of entry of the pollen tube in most of the angiosperms. These three cells are the 2 synergids and the egg cell. They are together referred to as the egg apparatus. The chalazal end has 3 cells called the antipodal cells. Lastly, there is a large central cell which consists of two polar nuclei.
