Solution

The correct option is D (a) - (iv), (b) - (i), (c) - (ii), (d) - (iii)

G1, S and G2 phases are the sub-phases of interphase of the cell cycle.
The G1 (gap 1) phase is the first phase of interphase which is the interval between mitosis and cell division. The cell remains metabolically active in this phase. It is followed by the S (synthesis) phase during which the cell makes an extra copy of DNA by replication. S phase is followed by G2 (Gap 2) phase, proteins are synthesised in preparation for mitosis.
Some animal cell do not undergo further cell divisions. They exit the G1 phase to enter an inactive stage called quiescent stage (G0 phase) of the cell cycle. Cells in the quiescent stage remain metabolically active do not proliferate unless called on to do so depending on the requirement of the organism.
