Blood:

  1. Blood is the red pigment that consists of plasma and blood cells (RBCs, WBCs, and platelets).
  2. Haemoglobin is a respiratory protein present in the RBCs which imparts red color to the blood.

Functions:

  1. The blood plasma helps in the transportation of food, carbon dioxide, nitrogenous wastes, salt, and other soluble substances.
  2. Red blood cells (RBSs) carry oxygen.
  3. White blood cells (WBCs) are defensive cells that are responsible for fighting infections and providing immunity.
  4. Platelets help in the clotting of blood.
  5. Blood helps in maintaining the body temperature.
