Open in App
Solution

Carbon is a non-metallic element that forms an acidic and neutral oxide.

  • Normally acidic oxides and neutral oxides are formed by the non-metals.
  • Acidic oxides are those compounds that release acids when they are dissolved in water. On the other hand, neutral oxides don't release any such compound.
  • The acidic oxide of carbon is carbon dioxide (CO2) which produces carbonic acid (H2CO3) with water and the neutral oxide is carbon monoxide (CO).
