Solution
Adrenal cortex:
The adrenal glands are a pair of yellowish, pyramid-shaped glands located above each kidney. The adrenal cortex is the larger outer region of the adrenal glands.
The hormones secreted by the adrenal cortex are glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids and adrenocorticoids.
Functions
Glucocorticoids help in the regulation of carbohydrates, lipids and protein metabolisms.
Mineralocorticoids maintain the balance between body salts and water levels.
Adrenocorticoids are sex hormones that activate the development of external sex characters in males and females. They have a weak effect but play a role in attaining puberty.
