Solution

Sexually transmitted diseases:

  1. Infectious disorders spread by sexual contact are known as general diseases or sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
  2. They are also known as reproductive tract infections (RTI).
  3. They commonly spread through pathogenic organisms such as bacteria and viruses.

Pathogenic agents that cause STDs:

Example of an STD caused by bacterial infection:

  1. Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted infection that affects men and women.
  2. It is a severe disease, and if left untreated, it can lead to significant health consequences.
  3. It affects more women than men.
  4. The bacteria that causes gonorrhea is Neisseria gonorrheae.
  5. These bacteria germinate quickly in the mucous membranes and are found in an infected person's sperm and vaginal fluids.
  6. The symptoms are mild and often go unnoticed for months after the disease has been contracted.

Example of an STD caused by viral infection:

  1. Genital herpes is the most challenging sexually transmitted infection.
  2. The causative agent of genital herpes is the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).
  3. Herpes simplex virus type II is the most frequent genital herpes.
  4. The lower body portion is affected, leading to the formation of painful sores on the reproductive organs.
  5. It can also cause a fetus to develop abnormally.

Measure to prevent sexually transmitted diseases:

  1. Mechanical barriers can be used while mating, such as condoms, cervical caps, diaphragms, etc.
  2. Educating and creating awareness at different levels.
  3. Sexual habits have to be maintained in a proper healthy way.
  4. Sexual act with multiple partners has to be avoided.
