Amoebiasis is caused by the protozoan parasite
Entamoeba histolytica.
Three symptoms of the disease are:
In acute conditions, diarrhoea or dysentery occurs with frequent, small and often bloody stools.
In chronic cases gastrointestinal symptoms are seen plus fatigue, weight loss and occasional fever
Liver abscess seen in severe cases.
