Solution

On the basis of the behavior of cotyledons, germination may be of the following two types:
1. Epigeal Germination:

  1. In this type of germination, the cotyledons are pushed upwards above the soil into the air and light due to the rapid growth and elongation of the hypocotyl.
  2. For example, bean, cotton, castor, papaya, onion, and tamarind.
    2. Hypogeal Germination:
  3. In this type of germination, the seed remains inside the soil.
  4. For example, wheat, rice, maize, pea, groundnut, mango, etc.

Final answer: The type of germination in which the cotyledons come above the ground is epigeal germination.
