Open in App
Solution

The gas evolved on heating baking soda:

  • Sodium bicarbonate or Baking soda is basically a white strong compound that is translucent in nature but it regularly shows up as a fine powder.
  • It has the chemical formula as NaHCO3 and is chemically named as Sodium bicarbonate.
  • Above 60°C, the Baking soda basically decomposes to form Sodium carbonate, water, and Carbon dioxide as the products.
  • The reaction for this can be given as :
    2NaHCO3(s)Sodiumbicarbonate>80°cNa2CO3(s)Sodiumcarbonate+H2O(l)Water+CO2(g)Carbondioxide

Therefore, Carbon dioxide gas is known as the gas to be evolved on heating baking soda.
