Solution

  • Carbonates: Carbonates are compounds which are having CO3- as one ion.
  • Carbonates like Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) upon heating result in the production of Carbon dioxide (CO2)and Calcium oxide(CaO)
  • CaCO3(s)heatCaO(s)+CO2(g)
  • It is a type of decomposition reaction.
  • Decomposition reaction: These are types of reactions in which a substance will get decompose into two or more two products.
  • But some carbonate compounds do not get decompose on heating.
  • And therefore, does not produce carbon dioxide.
  • For example Sodium carbonate and potassium carbonates.

Therefore, Sodium carbonates(Na2CO3) and potassium carbonate(K2NO3) are two carbonate salts that do not produce carbon dioxide on heating.
