Solution

Habitat loss:
  • Habitat loss and fragmentation is the major cause for the loss of biodiversity.
  • Increase in industrialization and overpopulation has led to cutting of trees and destroying the habitat of many animals.
  • Reduction in land area of tropical rainforests by 8% due to clearing of forests for cultivation of crops and raising livestock has also led to the destruction of the habitat of millions of species.
  • Species like large mammals and birds that require large territories are badly affected due to fragmentation leading to decline in their population.
  • Habitat degradation by pollution also poses a threat to the survival of many species.
