Question

calculate the number of particles in each of the following :

1)48kg of sodium atom Na

2)8grms of O2 molecules

Open in App
Solution

1) molecular wt. of Na = 23 gram
23 g Na atom = 1 mole Na atom = 6.023 x 1023 Na atom
therefore 48 kg of sodium will contain = 6.023 x 1023 / 23 * 48000 = 1.26 x 1028 atoms of Na

2) 32 g O2 = 1 mole of O2 molecule = 6.023 x 1023 O2 molecule
Therefore 8g of O2 sample will contain = 6.023 x 1023 / 32 * 8 = 1.55 x 1023 molecules of O2
