In malignant tumor, cancer cells grow very rapidly, invades and damage surrounding normal cells and tissues. This phenomenon of invading normal cells and cells from distant places in the body along with the blood stream is known as metastasis.

In benign tumor affected cell does not invade nearby cell or tissue or spread to other parts of the body. They lack the ability of metastasis.
