Solution

The correct option is A Only i
Genetically modified crops are the crops whose genes (DNA) are modified using genetic engineering techniques. These are also called transgenic crops. The main goal of producing GMOs is to increase the yield of the crop and to produce disease-resistant crops.

Bt cotton, Bt brinjal, golden rice are some examples of transgenic crops.

Bt cotton is the first transgenic crop commercially available in India.

Bt stands for Bacillus thuringiensis. A gene called cry gene is introduced in plants from this bacteria which produces proteins that can kill insects like tobacco budworm, beetles, etc. The cry gene forms protein crystals that kill the insects when ingested.

Transgenic plants have been developed that are more efficient in terms of the mineral utilisation. This prevents the early depletion of nutrients from the soil.
