Anaphase is a stage of the mitotic division after metaphase during which the replicated chromosomes are split and the daughter chromatids are moved to opposite poles of the cell. From the end of S phase until the end of metaphase, each chromosome contains two chromatids. In anaphase splitting of the daughter, chromatids take place so in late anaphase each chromosome does not consist of two chromatids.
