Question

State one function of the crystalline lens in the human eye?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Human eye lens

Just behind the iris lies a transparent crystalline double convex lens. It is held in position with the help of ciliary muscles.

Step 2: Function of the eye lens

The ciliary muscles, together with the suspensory ligaments can increase or decrease the curvature of the lens and therefore the focal length of the eye lens required to focus on objects at different distances on the retina.

The eye lens is a convex lens and focuses light rays to form a real and inverted image on the retina.

This crystalline lens divides the eyeball into two chambers:

  1. The anterior part.
  2. The posterior part.
