Action of concentrated sulphuric acid on hydrated copper sulphate.

Reaction:

  1. When hydrated Copper sulphate (CuSO4.5H2O) is treated in the presence of concentrated Sulphuric acid (conc.H2SO4), it forms anhydrous Copper (II) sulphate CuSO4 is formed.
  2. This process is known as dehydration and conc.H2SO4 acts as a dehydrating agent.

Observation:

The blue coloured Copper sulphate turns into white due to dehydration.
