(i) 17: Here, 2 is a natural number and 17 is a positive rational number.Hence, it is a surd.

(ii) -4: Here, 2 is a natural number but -4 is not a positive rational number.Hence, it is not a surd.

273=333=33 : Here, 2 is a natural number and 3 is a positive rational number.Hence, it is a surd.

64=82=8Here, n = 1 Hence, it is not a surd.

143=143 Here, 3 is a natural number and 14 is a positive rational number.Hence, it is a surd.
