Filtration is a process of separation used when minute insoluble solids are present in a liquid. In this process a filter paper is used, which is a sieve with very minute holes.

Salt is soluble in water, sugar is soluble in milk and ink mixes completely with water. Hence, the components of these mixtures cannot be separated by filtration.

Cornflakes are insoluble in milk and hence, can be easily separated by filtration.
