Question

The equation for the calculation of energy of nth orbit of hydrogen atom derived by Bohr is _.

Open in App
Solution

  1. Bohr's atomic model:

(i) It states that the electrons revolve around the nucleus in specified circular paths (just like planets revolve around the sun ) and these paths are referred to as orbits or shells or energy levels.

(ii) These orbits are associated with a fixed amount of energy.

(iii) As long as the electron remains in a particular orbit, its energy remains constant.

2. Bohr calculated the energy of the nth energy of the nth orbit of the hydrogen atom (Z=1) and derived the formula as-

En=-2π2me4Z2n2h2(4πε0)2

where h is the Planck's constant.

m is the mass of the electron.

e is the charge of the electron.
