Solution

The bauxite ore is heated with caustic soda at a temperature of 150C and forms sodium aluminate.
Al2O3·2H2O+NaOH150CNaAlO2+H2O

BauxiteCausticSodiumWater
SodaAluminate
Al2O3·2H2O+NaOH150CNaAlO2+H2ONumber of atoms in reactant:
aluminium = 2
oxygen = 6

hydrogen =4
sodium = 1

Number of atoms in product:
aluminium = 1

oxygen = 3
hydrogen = 2
sodium = 1

To balance the species, we will multiply NaOH molecule by2 and NaAlO2 by 2.
Therefore, the equation becomes: Al2O3·2H2O+2NaOH150C2NaAlO2+H2O

The equation obtained after balancing all the species according to the law of conservation of mass is:

Al2O3·2H2O+2NaOH150C2NaAlO2+H2O
