Solution

The correct option is C 0.095
Given,

μr=1.613 ; μv=1.632 ; A=5

Deviation of the red light is given by,

δr=(μr1)A

Deviation of the violet light is given by,

δv=(μv1)A

The angular dispersion (θ) is given by,

θ=δvδr=(μv1)A(μr1)A

=(μvμr)A=(1.6321.613)×5

θ=0.095

Why this question ?

Note: Deviation of beam (also called mean deviation)
δ=δy=(μy1)A

μv, μr and μy are R.I. of material for violet, red and yellow colours respectively.

Numerical data reveals that if the average value of μ is small, μvμr is also small and if the average value of μ is large μvμr is also large.

Thus, the larger the mean deviation, the larger will be the angular dispersion.
