Question

the resultant of two vectors 3Pand2P is R. if first is doubled the fresultant also gets doubled. then find the angle between two forces

Open in App
Solution

Let the angle between 3P and 2P vectors is θ, so the resultant R is given by,R2=3P2+2P2+2×3P×2P×cosθ.R2=9P2+4P2+12P2cosθ=13P2+12P2cosθ---1.When first vector is doubled i.e. made 6P, then resultant becomes 2R. Therefore2R2=6P2+2P2+2×6P×2P×cosθ. OR4R2=36P2+4P2+24P2cosθ=40P2+24P2cosθ----2Putting the value of R2 from equation 1 to eqation 2.413P2+12P2cosθ=40P2+24P2cosθ. or 52P2+36P2cosθ=40P2+24P2cosθ.12P2=-12P2cosθ or cosθ=-1 or θ=π.Thus the angle between the two vectos is π=180°.
