The water is filled upto height of 12 m in a tank having vertical sidewalls. A hole is made in one of the walls at a depth h below the waterlevel.The value of h for which the emerging stream of waterstrikes the ground at the maximum range is (in m).

The range of water jet can be given as
R=v×t, where v is the velocity of jet and t is the time taken by it to strike the ground.
Therefore, we have
R=2gh×(12h)×2g
or, R=4h(12h)
For maximum range R, dRdh=0
d(48h4h2)dh=(244h)48h4h2=0
h=6 m
